ABOUT
The Story Behind This Project
Phase I of a ground-breaking effort to extract and sequence dinosaur DNA. A consortium of creation scientists is pursuing what mainstream science considers impossible based on the biblical timeline and the growing soft-tissue evidence.
Can We Sequence Dinosaur DNA?
Obtaining ancient DNA from "prehistoric" creatures sounds like a thing out of Jurassic Park. Most scientists consider it impossible because dinosaurs are believed to have died out 66 million years ago. But from a straightforward biblical perspective, most dinosaurs died during the Flood only thousands of years ago. If that timeline is right, then recoverable dinosaur DNA is not absurd. It is a testable prediction.
The Research Team
Researchers at the VanAndel Creation Research Center, along with consortium partners, have spent years documenting the presence of soft tissue and proteins in dinosaur remains. If proteins and soft tissue are present, dinosaur DNA becomes the next major frontier.
Phase I Funding Plan
This campaign funds Phase I of a three-phase initiative. Our first objective is to acquire a set of test fossils and optimize the techniques needed to extract ancient DNA from paleontological specimens.
| Phase | Focus | Funding Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Phase I | Acquire samples and optimize extraction and sequencing methods | $85,000 |
| Phase II | Pursue first putative dinosaur DNA sequences | $71,000 |
| Phase III | Expand sequencing toward a rudimentary dinosaur genome | $94,000 |
| Planned Multi-Phase Total | $250,000 | |
This breakdown sets expectations clearly: this is a major, expensive research program, and successful completion of Phase I lays the groundwork for everything that follows.
Where the Money Goes
- DNA extraction and sequencing supplies
- Specialized equipment, including centrifuges, UV irradiator, and controlled sample-handling tools
- Student research interns
- Computational resources and data-processing equipment
- Sample acquisition
- Work performed by consortium partner labs
- Project administration
The Bigger Picture
Successful completion of Phase I will pave the way for Phase II and Phase III. Scientific research takes time, expertise, and substantial funding, but the potential payoff is enormous.
Why This Matters
If dinosaur DNA can be recovered and sequenced, it would be powerful evidence that these creatures lived far more recently than the conventional timeline assumes, exactly as the biblical account describes. This project has the potential to reshape the conversation around the age of the earth and the reliability of Scripture.
